Thrilling Experiences For Risk-Takers

There are now more options than ever for risk-takers. New and exhilarating cruise features are coming out every year.

Whether you’re looking for a rush from bungee jumping, zip-lining, or surfing, look no further. Here are a few of our favorite experiences you can’t miss out on for your next cruise adventure.

“Walk The Plank” Feature

Anyone who’s seen Pirates of the Caribbean, or any pirate movie, knows what it means to walk the plank. And now you have the opportunity to do it too.

Voted Norwegian Cruise Line’s best onboard thrill, the plank extends 8 feet beyond the ship over the water on a 6-inch plank that will terrify even the most adventurous thrill-seekers.

Skydiving Simulator

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it feels like to skydive without actually skydiving, here’s your chance. On the Royal Caribbean Cruise, Anthem of the Seas, you’ll get a skydiving rush right on board on their RipCord® by iFLY®  skydiving simulator.

This simulated experience is done with a high-powered wind machine and lasts 60 seconds. You’ll also have preparation time where you’ll work with an instructor and put on your skydiving suit. This gravity-defying activity is open to adults and children ages 3 and up.

Surfing Simulator

Whether you’re an experienced surfer or just learning, the FlowRider® surf simulator allows you to catch all the big waves. You can try body boarding or surfing on these generated 40-foot waves which are made over soft padding in case you wipe out.

This free activity has height requirements for both boogie boarding and stand-up surfing and lasts as long as you can stay on the board. For anyone who’s not an experienced surfer, there are classes available for a fee.

Trapeze School

Unless you’re already part of a circus, this cruise activity is more of a learning experience. And certainly, an activity that will get your heart pumping. Fly on the trapeze with Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas at no extra cost.

The age requirement is 6-years-old and only allows guests to do certain tricks. The trapeze is perfect for learning something new but isn’t meant for anyone who already has flying experience.

Bungee Trampoline

Experience this virtual thrill on the Sky Pad® bungee trampoline located at the very top of the cruise ship. You’ll use a virtual reality headset to explore other worlds while you bounce on the trampolines.

The Sky Pad® is free for all guests but comes with age and weight restrictions.

Ropes Course

You may have already conquered ropes courses, but have you done it on a ship with a beautiful view of the water? This Norwegian Cruise Line feature is located at the top deck of the ship, giving you an out-of-this-world view while you work through the 40+ obstacles of the course.

The ropes course is only available on Norweigan Cruise Lines’ Breakaway and Breakaway Plus Class ships and is the largest multi-level ropes course at sea.

Zip Line

Soar high across the ship on a zipline and get that exhilarating rush you’re looking for. Located high up on the 15th and 16th decks of the ship, you’ll be flying above the boardwalk area with a clear view of everything.

There are height and weight restrictions, and children 12-years-old and under need to be accompanied by an adult. Royal Caribbean also offers a free ride on the zip line on select ships.

Aqua Coasters

Try exhilarating water slides on Royal Caribbean — slides that are more like roller coasters. The “Blaster” is the longest waterslide at sea. It’ll launch you through an open-air chute and through the longest stretch of slide ever suspended over water.

There’s a minimum weight and height required, but guests can also team up and slide together with friends or children.

Family-Friendly Activities

When you’re ready to take a breather from all the heart-racing activities, there’s still plenty to keep you moving without the adrenaline rush. We’ve put together a few of our favorite features to try out on your next cruise that allow you and your family to stay active.

Latin Dance Classes

Why not try something new and learn some dance moves while onboard? With Royal Caribbean’s Latin dance classes, you can learn how to salsa from a professional dancing instructor.

Try out classes during the day and practice your moves in the evening at the Latin nightclub. Age restrictions apply for nightclubs and vary according to country.

Escape Rooms

If you’re looking for an activity to entertain the whole family, an escape room could be a great option. And now they’re included on many cruise lines with various themes, like space adventures and futuristic puzzle rooms.

If you’re with a large group, you can break into smaller teams and make it into a competition!

Bumper Cars

This is the only place you’ll be able to drive around at sea, but definitely the most fun. Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ships offer an indoor activity area that includes bumper cars.

Bumper cars are a great way to enjoy a fun activity that the whole family will love.

Ice Skating

You’re probably not expecting to ice skate while vacationing in the Caribbean, but you’ll have that option when traveling with Royal Caribbean.

Many of their ships now include an indoor ice skating rink, and it’s complimentary. Children under 6-years-old must be accompanied on the rink by an adult and you can rent out skates in all sizes.

Laser Tag

You can enjoy a game of laser tag on both Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. They both have their own fun setups to explore. “The Battle for Planet Z” on Royal Caribbean glows in the dark, and on Norwegian, you’ll be running around an abandoned space station.
